Dr. Jackie Ogega is a Kenyan American Writer, Storyteller, and Advocate for Gender Equality and Social Inclusion
She is an inspiring leader with extensive experience in international development, peacebuilding, humanitarian relief programming, and field research. Her focus is on gender equality, social inclusion, and the empowerment of women and girls. A survivor of violence, Jackie works to prevent all forms of gender-based violence. She is now the Senior Advisor and Team Lead for Gender-Based Violence Programming and Integration at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), based in Washington D.C., and the co-founder and president of Mpanzi Empowering Women and Girls.

I squeezed myself into the trunk of the tree, cautiously lifting my feet off the ground. The large tree let my little body hang freely, my thighs intimate with its bark. I held tight, afraid to make any move.
When I was a little girl, I watched my mama tear her wedding pictures into pieces. The pictures had been beautifully displayed on the wall in our house, depicting my mama and father looking crazy in love and happy.
